For sale is a superb early figurine made by Hochst during their early years in the 18th century around 1760. The piece is of a Bassoon player from the predecessor of the modern day boy band - Knabenkapelle in German which translates to boy band or boy orchestra :) A superbly modeled piece that is hand painted perfectly. Typical look for one of their early pieces with the nice yet simple outfit and the gold and puce scrolls along the base. The figure is marked underneath with the red wheel mark as shown. He displays nicely but has some damage which I will get fixed with the next round of things when I have more time. The bassoon instrument has been restored and needs to be redone Not sure what is wrong but there is a break under his lower hand and the mouth piece is definitely not original. It was painted over which has flaked a bit and underneath one can see glazed original porcelain so it was likely white to begin with. The fingers and hands are fine which is surprising. His hat has been damaged and worked on which is now again mostly gone. Underneath the over paint is a lighter green color that the restored color one sees now. The cape corners to the back have been damaged a bit as well as shown. The little guy needs a bit of help but is an amazing and rare early piece that displays fine as is I think. The piece is 4.75 inches tall, 2.25 inches wide and 2 inches deep. German Germany music antique Fagottspieler Kapelle Musikant musician
