Antique Jean Gille Biscuit Porcelain Large Figurine Porcelaine Figure French
This product data sheet is originally written in English.
For sale is a really fun large figure made by Jean Gille of France in the mid 19th century . It does not have the typical raised blue pad mark but is instead marked as shown with a mark we all know was used by almost all makers at some point for obvious reasons but the quality of this piece in the unglazed porcelain with all that painted, raised and molded detail can only point to the one maker that made the best biscuit figurines during this period in this style - Jean Gille ! His successor Vion & Baury also made nice pieces but the quality already went down with them so I don't think it is by them. Either way - an amazing figurine of a Russian Jewish family (I believe) with the father sitting in a chair on a podium with a desk in front of him with a book on it, a music sheet hanging off
