2012 to commemorate the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue £500 Five Hundred Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid fine .999 Silver and weighing one kilo of pure SilverThe reverse designed by sculptor Sir Anthony Caro and the artist, author and ping-pong ace Tom Phillips incorporates elements suggesting Olympic pennants and the Olympic Flame, to represent the highest ideals of the Games as a uniting force for good.The obverse depicts Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank Broadley FRBS.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
