MarkMartin (bornJanuary 21, 1956 is an American cartoonistknownfor lighthearted humor and satire. He grew up in Leeds,Alabama.Martin'sfirst major work in the 1980s was Gnatrat,a parody of Batman,featuring a rat who dresses as a gnat to fight crime. He went on towork on the TeenageMutant Ninja Turtlesseries,and created "20 Nude Dancers 20," a long-running humorstrip featured in ComicsBuyer's Guide.As an editor, Martin created the anthology Hyenaandbriefly oversaw a humor section in HeavyMetal.He also edited the first edition of ScottMcCloud'sUnderstandingComics.Martin then moved toward working almost exclusively in children'scomics, often for NickelodeonMagazine,while producing other work for his website. His collaborations withlong-time friend JimWoodringincludethe children's series TantalizingStories,and several minicomicsfeaturingtheir characters FrankandMontgomery Wart.
