BRAND / MAKER๐๐ธ๐: marked made in Japan, with red Japanese Caligraphy Stamp signature
COLORS & Materials: Reddish Orangish and Pinkishy Traditional Pottery Clay of Japan; Corded Clay Earthenware with birds, spirals, waves, and flowers; Jลmon pottery (็ธๆๅๅจ, Jลmon doki) is a type of ancient earthenware pottery which was made during the Jลmon period in Japan. The term "Jลmon" (็ธๆ) means "rope-patterned" in Japanese, describing the patterns that are pressed into the clay. A light, almost matte clear lead glaze has been fired.
SIZE: 10" tall x 5" at widest x 2-3" deep
AGE: Guesstimate 70-150 years (started trading with US & UK 1853 - ergo the "made in japan: engraved stamp, as well as the red Japanese calligraphy seal stamp) the actual Jomon Period was 10500 BCE to 300 BCE -- neither of which would stamp their work "made in japan"... of course. So definitely a lovely, nicely crafted, antique replica for English-speaking tourists.
CONDITION:Very good - no major damage (NO breaks, cracks, missing parts), It looks like it had a painted light glaze at one time, but time has worn much of it off - leaving a hint of yellows and reds -- there are few small time-related very fine, barely able to see dimples, hazy clear spots, barely there scritches/scrapes, but nothing that deters from its timeless elegance and beauty. DESCRIPTION: ANTIQUE Jomon Pottery Clay Pointed Vessal for wall Corded Predynastic-style signed and marked "made in Japan". Might use it for dried flowers, long incense sticks, brushes, etc... I am unable to read the red seal to ascertain the name of the artist/maker --- nor can I read Japanese calligraphy hahahaha. The JOMON patterns of very symmetrical spirals, waves, flowers, and even birds on the pointed wall vessel represent the beauty, strength, balance, and harmony of nature: spirals, and the movement and dynamics of all things naturally ever-changing.
