These antique French Lemaire mother of pearl opera glasses, dating back to the 1800s, are a stunning piece of history. The intricate craftsmanship of these French-made binoculars is evident in the beautiful pearl detailing. The opera glasses have a few minor scratches on the brass as pictured, but are otherwise in excellent condition. The glasses come with the original blue velvet case.  The case, as can be seen in the photos has lots of deterioration over the years - especially in the outside.  The clasp works perfectly though.  The satin interior is in a bit better shape than the velvet and features the name:  Mrs. T. Lynch of NYC. I assumed this was the owner but after doing a bit of research, located the 3 pictured documents that clarify that this was a business at the end of the Gilded age in NYC that imported and sold diamonds and jewelry.  This lovely piece is perfect for collectors of vintage optical instruments or anyone with an appreciation for the artistry of a bygone era.
