This piece was sold to me as a Civil War dog tag.  I believe it is that although it does not say Civil War nor is there a year on the piece.
I believe the piece is a silver half dolllar with a reeded edge.  It is 30mm.  It weighs 0.3 ounces or 10 grams.  The reverse is blank except for a design around the edge.

The obverse is very worn but many of the letters can be made out.  After studying it with a magnifying glass I believe it reads the followintg:  John H. Lucas/Company/D/3rd Infantry/U.S.A./Gordon, ????

The word Gordon is plain to read on the bottom line but I can't make out the letters following it.  Only the tops of the letters U.S.A are visible.

The rim has two edge bumps.

It is an interesting piece if anyone can figure out the name and where the soldier was from.

It will be send insured.
