Description: Hardcover with hand-embroidered covers. 491. The book itself is common, no pun intended. The Book of Common Prayer has been published by the millions. But this copy is very uncommon, in fact it is likely unique, in that an owner long ago made, or had made, beautiful custom embroidered covers for the volume.
Hand stitched in white and gold thread, the embroidered covers do show some wear for their 150-year age, with corners fraying slightly and some of the thread worn. But they are still complete and unfaded. It is apparent that the covers also fulfilled their protective purpose, as the contents, although a bit age darkened, and with a few corners bent, are still in clean and unmarked condition. Gilt all around, although a bit worn off.
The pastedowns are lined with purple, patterned silk. 12mo, binding 130 x 85mm. Very Good.
