GORGEOUS VICTORIAN TEA and COFFEE SERVICE Circa 1850s. Extremely fine silver work, both etched and repousse, with Gothic and botanical design references. Made and signed on the bottoms by Taunton Silverplate Co (Meriden CT).

Includes 2 coffee or tea pots, lidded sugar bowl, and creamer.

The work on this service is stunning – truly outstanding craftsmanship from the Victorian era. The deeply etched flowers and swirls go around the entire body of each piece.  The necks have finely detailed Gothic or early Craftsman geometric ornamentation. The teapot and coffee pot handles are decorated with little birds on pine branches. These are nicely shaped and proportioned, too.

MEASUREMENTS : Coffee or tea pots are both 8" high (to top finial of hinged lid) x 10 1/2" wide (handle to spout) and about 5 ½” diameter in the middle; Sugar bowl is 5 3/4" high (to top finial on removable lid) x 7 1/2" wide (handle to handle) x 4 ¾” diameter; Creamer is  4 1/4" high x 6 ¾” wide (handle to spout) x 4” diameter in the middle.

CONDITION : This is a high quality set in very good condition with no major issues. Only found 2 tiny dents in the exact same spot on each of the pot handles where your thumb rests to pour. No other dings or scratches. Some slight tarnish overall and pitting on one of the pots. No silver loss. Insides have some darkening but no rust or damage.
