Cupressus sempervirens, the Mediterranean cypress (also known as  Italian cypress / Tuscan cypress / Persian cypress / pencil pine), is a species of cypress native to the eastern Mediterranean region and the Balkans
Cupressus sempervirens is a medium-sized coniferous evergreen tree to 35 m (115 ft) tall, with a conic crown with level branches and variably loosely hanging branchlets. It is very long-lived, with some trees reported to be over 1,000 years old. The species name sempervirens comes from the Latin for 'evergreen'.
The foliage grows in dense sprays, dark green in colour. The leaves are scale-like, 2–5 mm long, and produced on rounded (not flattened) shoots.
Mediterranean cypress has been widely cultivated as an ornamental tree for millennia away from its native range, mainly throughout the whole Mediterranean region, and in other areas with similar hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, including California, southwest South Africa and southern Australia. It can also be grown successfully in areas with cooler, moister summers, such as the British Isles, New Zealand and the Pacific Northwest (coastal Oregon, Washington and British Columbia). It is also planted in Florida and parts of the coastal southern United States as an ornamental tree.

Growing and sowing instruction:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours.
Stratification: The seeds have only shallow natural dormancy and require only a short period of cold stratification ( 4 -6 weeks)  to enable germination to occur. The seeds mixed with a little clean, damp sand or damp vermiculite and placed in a clear plastic bag  at temperatures between 3-5 Celsius (37-41 Fahrenheit) which is about the temperatures found in your fridge.
Germination: sow seed 1/16" (2 mm) deep.
Keep them at room temperature – around 20 celsius.

Follow with a gentle watering and keep them at room temperature in a place with plenty of light but not full sun. Maintain a high humidity around the seeds until germination starts and then provide good ventilation. Germination should begin a few weeks from sowing. The seedlings are reasonably robust and trouble free and usually grow to a height of between 5 and 10 cm in the first growing season. Growth will accelerate during the second and subsequent years and the developing young trees should be re-potted as necessary preferably during the dormant season. After 2 or 3 years they are ready to be planted in their permanent position.
All seeds that I sell are collected personally by me from the region in which I live - Southeastern Bulgaria.
