Leica Elmarit-R 90mm f/2.8 portrait lens, built-in hood, fits Canon/Olympus/Sony

You are bidding on an excellent example of the now-legendary Leica 90mm f2.8 Elmarit-R lens, a later version with a built-in retractable lens hood. When paired with an appropriate adapter, it can be used with the latest dSLR cameras from Canon, Olympus, Sony and others.

Writing about the latest 90mm Elmarit-M for rangefinders, Leica expert, Erwin Puts, described the 90mm Elmarit-M as a lens that's 'in the tradition of the best classical photography'. Elsewhere, Puts describes the 90mm Elmarit-M as 'the current state-of-the-art of Leica lens design [...] the limit of image quality at this focal length'. All rangefinder enthusiasts know about this lens, but what fewer photographers know is that the second 90mm Elmarit-R for Leica R cameras is optically identical, equally 'the pinnacle of classic design', writes Puts.

Not only, then, does the 2nd-generation 90mm Elmarit-R provide Leica's amazing 4-element design to Leica R film camera users, it also means that photographers using the latest dSLRs from Canon or Olympus can, with the appropriate mount adapter, also have access to this wonderful lens which is small and portable enough enough to be tucked into any gadget bag (approx. 65mm; 450g).

As you can see from the photographs taken earlier today, the lens up for auction is in excellent condition, exhibiting only normal signs of use. Cosmetically, you'll find a small dent in the barrel of the lens above the made in Germany label, which I've tried to photograph, and you'll see that the bayonet spot has fallen off. Despite this, the lens continues to look very handsome and presentable indeed, as you can see from the pictures. Optically, the lens is mint, free from scratches, dirt, dust or fungus. Focusing/aperture rings continue to be smooth, well dampened and decisive, aperture blades are snappy and free of oil, and the mount is clean and bright. The retractable lenshood works just as it should. The lens comes supplied with its original front push cap and a rear cap.

If, then, you think you could benefit from this classic telephoto lens this year, don't even think of letting today's opportunity to invest in your photography pass you by.
