We have done some not inconsiderable research to try and determine the origins of this garment, but have come up with a complete blank. We have detailed below all the information we could find or noticed:

The faded logo leather patch and brass buttons has the figure of the Lion of St Mark – Venice

The buttons also have the inscription ‘Di Gruttola’ although this is difficult to accurately determine

The wash label states ‘Vera Pele’ which we understand means ‘Real Leather’

If nothing else, this is ‘one of a kind’.

If anybody recognises this, please can you let us know just for our own interest.

It appears that this has not been worn for a very long time, and although in very good condition, would probably appreciate being treated with some leather food. We could not see any tears, cracking, splits or damage.

Checking it over, we could not see any obvious faults, pulls, stains, etc..., but there may be the odd wear mark that we did not find.

As we have found that different garment manufacturer’s sizes can slightly differ from each other, and sometime due to possible shrinkage during washing, we have taken pictures of ‘pit to pit’ & ‘nape to bottom’; so that you can ensure that this item will fit.
