For sale is a superb cup and saucer made in Russia the 19th century. In my search for this maker I came up mostly empty except I heard there are some known sauce boats by the same maker. If anyone out there knows anything I'd appreciate a quick email! Either way it is a very nice made set and even without looking at the mark one would know it is Russian! The piece has a nice chocolate rbown ground color to it with a superb scene in the center of the saucer and front of the cup. All hand painted including buildings and people in a landscape surrounding. The scenes are surrounded by a scroll frame highlighted with gilding and there are flowers coming out of the frame into the brown ground. Gold trim to the edge and the inside of the cup is fully gilded. White handle to the cup highlighted with some gilding. The saucer is in great condition with just a touch of wear to the gilding along the edge. The cup is in good condition but it looks odd on the inside. Either it was originally not fully gilded on the inside or (and I suspect this is the case) it was worn quite heavily and someone has tried to regild the inside possibly with gold leaf as it is uneven and a little rough to the touch with lines in it. It's not overly pretty on the inside only but there are no chips or restorations. I used my super bright light to look through the paste and looked for any actual porcelain issues and found none. The edge gilding is worn just like on the saucer. So all in all the set is in really good condition. They display perfectly as long as you can't look inside the cup and look stunning! Both pieces are marked underneath with the red Russian / cyrillic letters in a red box. A mark I could not find anywhere in all my books. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 4.875 inches in diameter. The cup is just over 2.125 inches tall and has a diameter of 2.625 inches.

If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like KPM , Sevres and so on.
