Guillaume Lekeu (1870 - 1894) was born in Heusy, Belgium.  He was already studying piano and music theory before his parents moved to Poitiers, France in 1879.  He began composing at the age of 15.  Lekeu was a private student of Cesar Franck.  The Sonata in G Major for Violin and Piano (sometimes just referred to as the "Violin Sonata in G") is perhaps his most famous work and appeared in about 1892.  Lekeu died of typhoid fever which he contracted after eating a contaminated sorbet for his 24th birthday.

Charles Wuorinen (1938 - 2020) was born on the upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City.  He was also precocious, starting to compose at age 5.  When he was age 16, he won the Young Composers' Award given by the New York Philharmonic.  He had a distinguished career as an academic, as well as a composer.  In 1962, Wuorinen became a co-founder of The Group for Contemporary Music, which championed practitioners of the "new music".  He received the Pulitzer Prize for music for his electronic piece, Time's Encomium

Violinist John Ferrell was a long time professor at the University of Arizona (Tucson) and also the concertmaster for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra (TSO).  Previously, he had taught at the University of Iowa and had been second violin with the Stradivari Quartet.  He died in 2015.

Pianist James Avery also started his career at the University of Iowa, after studying at the University of Kansas and at Indiana University.  He later became a professor at the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Music in Freiburg, Germany.  He was known for his performances of the "new music", particularly through his ensemble called SurPlus.  He died in 2009.
