For sale is a rare figurine made by Meissen in 1737. The
figure is of St. Catherine of Genoa I was told she was commissioned by
Queen Maria Josepha of Saxony and Poland as mentioned in Kaendler's
records in January of 1737. I think she could also represent St. Teresa
of Avila who is sometimes shown with an arrow piercing her heart. She is
superbly modeled with an arrow piercing her heart and lots of nice gold
trim. She was painted when first made which is very important! She is
in great condition with a firing crack underneath the base, the index
finger has a chip, the pinky on that hand is missing the tip, the top of
the arrow is missing and a few minor chips to the halo. Amazingly there
is almost no wear to the gilding and there are no restorations at all!
The figure is 7.25 inches tall. It is marked underneath with a faint
crossed swords mark. Flat base underneath with the air hole typical of
these early pieces. 18th century German Germany Heilige
