Hanau German Silver Bowl Simon Rosenau Hand-Chased Flowers and Fruit c1900

Presented is a German .800 purity silver bowl from the early 1900s. This piece is hand chased with ornate flowers and fruit to make a unique three-dimensional pattern. The bowl leaves no empty space; the whole area is intentionally crafted and decorated. The interwoven design of beading and scrolls with the flowers and fruit which is elegant and fancy. There are two small handles on either side of the bowl which have been cast and applied. The handles are topped with a mythical creature's head and then flows into scroll-work throughout the rest. The style is emulating pieces from the 1600s, work that the maker, Simon Rosenau, is known for.

The bowl is marked for 800 purity silver. It is also marked SR for the maker, Simon Rosenau of Bad Kissingen.

This piece is in excellent condition especially considering age. There is a slight wobble and the rim has a few small splits, no more than 1/8 inch in length. The chasing is crisp and the applied handles are firm. There are no monograms and no monogram removals.
