Presented is an American pair of sugar tongs. This piece dates between circa 1770-1800, it is very likely colonial. There is unique engraved details around the tongs. This is a ribbon-like border with two round designs on either side that look floral or maybe like sand-dollars. There is a monogram at the back, ML, in script.

The tongs are marked with the maker's mark J:B. This could possibly be John Brown, but there were many makers with these initials at this time who it could be. The tongs are tested and guaranteed coin (900) purity silver.

This piece is in great condition, especially considering its age. There is a small notch in the side of the metal where it was probably purity tested. This spot is small and the wear is surprisingly minor. The tongs are clean and ready for use.
