Wolfe's first book after completing his hugely influential Book of the New Sun series, There Are Doors turns in a very direction. It's a fantasy novel about a department store salesman who falls into an alternate world while searching for his missing girlfriend. While it doesn't share the epic qualities of Book of the New Sun, this novel is nevertheless a Gene Wolfe book, so it contains much more than at first appears.
