Electronic music trailblazer Gary Numan started making music in a band called Tubeway Army in 1977. By 1978, that band released their self-titled debut album. Their second album, called 'Replicas', contains the hit "Are 'Friends' Electric?", (the biggest Tubeway Army hit of all)! By 1979, Numan was on his own...

Gary Numan's biggest hit is a song called "Cars". Which was released in 1979, but is usually considered to be an 80s new wave hit. Which it is! It's still being played on classic hits radio, as well as 80s hits stations, and even some alternative rock channels. Numan hit the jackpot with a catchy little tune about automobiles! "Cars" is from his debut album 'The Pleasure Principle', released in '79, (but not to be confused with the 1986 Janet Jackson song of the same name).

"Cars" was used in a beer campaign, in 1996, for the Carling Premier beverage company. The mix is called the 'Premier mix', but it's actually a remix from 1987! (The 'E' Reg Mode mix.) This mix was used in the beer commercial that aired on TV. Gary Numan was also promoting a greatest hits album at the time, featuring Tubeway Army songs and his solo stuff, so everything tied in together very well! A rare 7" picture disc single was released, as well as a CD single. In this awesome deal, you'll get both...plus more!

First up is the 7" picture disc. It's really cool, and shows Numan's face, in a car! It's also numbered, and is number 1555. The back is song titles and credits. This has some light surface marks on it, and I cannot vouch for the sound quality of it. (I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records.) But the colors are nice and bright, and this looks great! The CD single has both tracks from the vinyl, plus an extended 'Premier' mix of "Cars", and the live version of the song "Down in the Park".

Next CD is another single with FOUR more mixes of "Cars", including the original 1979 version! Both CD singles have light surface marks on them, but nothing too bad, or that will affect play. Both cases look great. I'll also include a 1998 remix CD called 'Gary Numan The Mix', with a total of FOURTEEN tracks! "Cars" is here with three different and wild mixes, as well as several other cuts. Numan songs remixed by techno and goth artists such as Leather Strip, Astralasia, Information Society, and Spahn Ranch, among others. Disc looks new, and is shiny and clean. Case looks new, also.

Last CD is another single, but this time it's the song "Cars", credited to the band Fear Factory. Featuring Gary Numan! Fear Factory is a groove metal industrial band, and they remade this classic song in 1998. The catch is, they used Gary Numan's (newly recorded) vocals on the track, and he's also in the video! This CD single has the remix of Fear Factory's remake of "Cars", with two more songs. A very cool companion piece to the other versions of "Cars"! Disc itself has only a few light surface marks on it, but nothing bad, or that will affect play. Case looks awesome.

And last, I'll add a vintage shaped picture disc of the Gary Numan song "Berserker", from 1984, FORTY years ago! The vinyl has become "tea-stained", which just means that the inferior vinyl used in the manufacturing process has become oxidized, and is turning a tea (or rust) color. But in this case, it almost gives it a sepia quality, and it looks like it's supposed to be that way! A very cool collectible from the godfather of techno and electronic alternative music, Gary Numan. Grab these Gary goodies before someone else gets there before you!
