This is a very impressive, heavy, well made, antique 8 Day, mechanical Westminster Chime tambor desk or mantel clock; some even call this a Napoleon's Hat mantel clock. It was created about 90 years ago in "Wurtemberg, Germany" by "Junghans," the premier clock maker in this region of the world. We've had this clock for years and enjoy the good looks and reliable nature even though the chiming mechanism (tone bars and strikers) is missing. Use it this way or find parts for this valuable antique to make it chime again. It does go through its paces regardless but no sound, of course. The case is made entirely of heavy hard wood and finished in a gorgeous shade of dark mahogany; very nice! This is one of the most impressive antique mantel clocks I've seen in some time. It measures about 10 1/2" at its highest, about 6 1/2" at its deepest point, and about 22" at its widest point. The clock is fitted with a precision, 8 Day, German, mechanical movement and bears the "Junghans" name, their unique star logo, and the Germany point of origin. There are round wooden supports underneath in each corner. The base and sides are beautifully beveled and there is fancy trim on the upper edge and sides too. The dial is surrounded by a hinged brass metal bezel with a convex glass crystal inset into it; no cracks or chips that I can see. It is quite secure yet opens easily to allow access to the three winding arbors located there as well as for setting the time. There is also a "Chime/Silent" metal lever on the right side of the dial which is a great feature for light sleepers or when company is in town. The metal dial has a silvertone backdrop featuring easy to read, raised or embossed brass metal arabic numerals to mark the hours and ornate metal matching hands to point out the time. The hands are the old style that are pinned to the escapement, not screwed on. The words, "Junghans" and "Germany" appear together in small block letters at the base of the dial. The back of the clock is made from wood too and is secured with a brass metal pull. It opens easily to allow access to the movement itself and for storing the metal winding key. The clock winds via the arbors located on the dial and lasts for about 8 days on a single wind. And when repairs have been made, this is what it is capable of doing: it plays music too and goes through its paces by playing a remarkable four note melody on five metal chime bars at the quarter hour; eight notes at the half, twelve notes at the 3/4 hour mark, and the full sixteen notes at the top of the hour. It will then strike the current number of hours, just like Big Ben in London! The clock works quite well here, keeps good time, and the action of the chime mechanism works just fine too but like I said, the tone bars and strike hammers are missing. Keep in mind this is a nice clock but not at all a new clock though it does quite well for a 90 year-old clock. We don't know the service history even though it does show signs of past maintenance but regardless, we always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. If you do this faithfully, you will preserve this classic clock and keep it healthy for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with the brass metal pendulum and the metal winding key. I've looked the clock over fairly well and find that it shows very well and looks great for an antique clock. There are some nicks here and there but no damage that I can see. It has a stunning aging glow and is simply beyond gorgeous on display! This clock is one of the most impressive chiming models that I've seen in some time. It is certain to dazzle you and any guests seeing or hearing it in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a rare chiming American timepiece with a fabulous legacy behind it. Repair the chimes, fix them yourself, or leave the clock the way it is. Regardless, bid with confidence; I have no doubt that you will love this clock!

We're selling this item and everything else we list with No Reserve, AS-IS, No Returns or Refunds, and a low starting bid so that everyone has an equal chance to own this rare clock!  We'd be glad to send more pictures if available; just ask!  My wife and I have been accumulating lots of nice antiques and other collectors items over the years.  But now is a good time to start clearing out the things we no longer wish to keep.  We will give the money we raise from ebay sales to a ministry we support that is helping to construct orphan homes and schools in Kenya and China, resettling refugees from the Sudan, and lending assistance to victims of terror like those in Israel.  It's just something we enjoy doing and this is where your money will go once you have paid for this item.  We do all that we can to accurately describe each item to the best of our ability.  Our terms are pretty simple; payment is due on or before the 2nd day following the close of sale.  The winning bidder will be sent an invoice following the close of sale through EBAY Checkout.  Buyer is to pay for shipping and handling; we generally ship by the US Postal Service and sometimes by Federal Express.  An international buyer will pay additional postage and is encouraged to get a shipping estimate from us prior to the close of auction.  In most cases, payment can be made by VISA or MasterCard by calling our office or through Pay Pal in US funds.  Please note that all transactions will be given the appropriate feedback.  Bid often and have Fun!
