In 1902, the Rock Island Line (RI) in conjunction with Southern Pacific (SP) launched the Golden State Limited – a seasonal service between Chicago & Los Angeles via Kansas City, Tucumcari, El Paso & Southern Arizona (Southern Pacific locomotives headed the train from Tucumcari westwards).  The service went year-round from 1910 and in 1948 introduced streamliner equipment on the route, also changing the train’s name to just Golden State.

In total, the Golden State had 5 separate consists to meet the scheduling needs with RI and SP providing equipment for each consist.  Some of the cars were unique (the only ones of that version built) which meant that no two consists were the same.  The Golden State also handled sleeping car routes between connecting trains along its own route which varied the train’s makeup along its journey.

The sleeper named “La Jolia” was built in 1947 by Pullman-Standard and was a 12-bedroom sleeper.  It was originally built for RI’s equipment set for the planned Golden Rocket, but after SP cancelled its order of cars for the Golden Rocket, RI incorporated it into the Golden State service instead.

This model represents the “La Jolia” sleeper that was used in the Golden State consist.  It has never been run on a layout and can be considered near new.  The box is showing signs of age & wear.  Please review the photos as they form part of the description.
