In the 1960’s, Artist Earl Mayan took the NYC subway to teach an evening painting class at NYC’s Art Student’s League. He often sketched people on the train dozing off from a hard day’s work. He would later add some watercolor to the background.

Artist Earl Mayan was well known for his Saturday Evening Post covers in the 1950’sand 60’s. He illustrated many publications in the 20th century, as well as creating his own fine art paintings in later years. He taught painting at the Art Student’s League for 30 years.
