Offered in this NO RESERVE auction is this nice example of Lionel's #520 GE 80-ton boxcab electric. Lionel offered this electric in 1956 and 1957 only. It headed set 1542, but was never offered as a separate sale item.

This 520 electric is about as nice as you would hope to find. There are no marks anywhere on the unpainted red plastic body. There are a couple of places where the mold may have left lighter streaks near the base of the cab on both sides. I have tried to capture that in the fourth picture, below the '520'. The white heat-stamped lettering and number are perfect, with the white color having taken on a slightly grayish hue. The white delineating accent stripes are complete. The wheels show a modest amount of run time. The fragile black plastic pantograph is undamaged.

I put this car on my test track briefly. It has no magne-traction, but still runs strongly in both directions and the e-unit cycles smoothly through the F-N-R sequence. The one operating coupler works with a good spring. This engine did not have a headlight or a horn.

The engine was never offered for separate sale and was packed in set 1542 with a wrap-around insert. A separate component box for the 520 was never made.

Please examine all the pictures, as they are an integral part of my description.
