      Deutscher Schriftsteller und Publizist der Aufklärung. Bereits während seiner Zeit in Leipzig schrieb er Artikel für verschiedene Zeitschriften, meist in satirischer oder essayistischer Form. Er wurde wegen seines Schreibstils oft der "deutsche Swift" genannt, wohl deshalb, weil er sich später dem Stil der englischen Wochenzeitschriften annäherte. Rabeners Prosasatire in Form von kurzen Romanen, Briefen, Gedichten, sowie Sprichwörtern, in denen er menschliches Fehlverhalten, aber auch gesellschaftliche Missstände des Bürgertums satirisch aufbereitete, wurde vielfach in Zeitschriften publiziert. Seine Veröffentlichungen gab er in den 1750er-Jahren unter dem Titel Sammlung satirischer Schriften als Sammlung heraus, die letztlich vier Bände umfassen sollte. Diese Publikation erfuhr innerhalb weniger Jahre mehrere Auflagen und erschien ebenso unter anderem auf Dänisch, Französisch, Englisch und Schwedisch.

      German writer and publicist of the Enlightenment. Already during his time in Leipzig, he wrote articles for various journals, mostly in satirical or essayistic form. He was often called the "German Swift" because of his writing style, probably because he later approximated the style of the English weeklies. Rabener's prose satire in the form of short novels, letters, poems and proverbs, in which he satirised human misconduct as well as the social ills of the bourgeoisie, was widely published in periodicals. He published his publications in the 1750s under the title Sammlung satirischer Schriften (Collection of Satirical Writings) as a collection that would ultimately comprise four volumes. This publication went through several editions within a few years and was also published in Danish, French, English and Swedish, among other languages.
