Boston, MA Cabinet Card handsome, thoughtful man w mustache by W. Shaw Warren
Lovely portrait of a handsome, well-groomed man looking calmly off-camera. His wide bow tie against the crisp white of his shirt draws the eye to the center, and then up to his face.
Card with rounded edges measures 6.5 x 4.25 inches. Image measures about 5.125 x 4 inches.
Overall yellowing to photo. Fading to photo. Soiling to image and card. Corner wear to card.
Below image is printed:
"Warren
41 Winter St.
Boston."
On reverse are some Art Nouveau illustrations, including a fan and a wading bird. In the center is:
"W. Shaw Warren
Art Photographer,
No. 41 Winter Street,
Boston."
William Shaw Warren worked as a photographer at this address from 1870 to 1874, which helps us to precisely date this photo. Warren later made a very well-known photo of Walt Whitman.
My
mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for
years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as
quickly as I am able.
There
are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any
information my mother may have left with individual photos.
Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able
to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research
into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often,
but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more
information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow
process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and
selling process.
I am always happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases, so please check out my other listings.
I will ship as soon as I receive payment.
