Exclusively available to Masters Club members, our new Lost Designs from the Archives series brings to life unused coin concepts that were submitted in a 1936 design competition, and it begins with a little spring-blooming flower.

Already renowned for his Voyageur dollar, Emanuel Hahn was among the artists invited to propose more modern designs for the Canadian circulation coin series of 1937—the coins that would introduce the now-classic designs you know and love. While Hahn’s Bluenose and caribou are still in circulation today, his vision of a “trillium” cent—one of 16 concepts he submitted—is finally making the leap from paper to coin with this 2 oz. 99.99% fine silver collectible, the first in a new limited series offering a peek at some of the coins that could have been.

  • Coin #1. Step back in time with Coin #1, which offers rare insight into the artistic process behind the modernization of Canada’s coins. This coin’s reverse re-creates one of the unused concepts that were submitted in 1936 for new coins that were ultimately released in 1937.
  • Close reproduction. The engraving is based on the original pencil sketch, which has been preserved as part of the National Currency Collection (NCC) of the Bank of Canada. On this coin, the drawing has been reproduced as closely as possible to honour Hahn’s vision.
  • You spoke and we listened. Following 2019’s Royal Canadian Mint Coin Lore set, many Masters Club members have been clamouring for a return trip to the archives. This was the top theme in a survey sent to Masters Club members, and we’re following through on our promise to bring collectors more of what you want!
  • 2 oz. silver. Precision-crafted in 2 oz. of 99.99% pure silver and featuring a luminous proof finish. Mintage is limited to just 2,500 coins.
  • Includes serialized certificate. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins. Your coin comes with a serialized Masters Club certificate featuring a reproduction of the original art.
  • No GST/HST.

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded lacquered case with a black beauty box. It is accompanied by a Masters Club certificate of authenticity that includes a reproduction of the original sketch.
