Data
There are many suppliers for this hobby, some very good but there are still a few gaps and inaccuracies we can address. Accuracy is our byword so we base everything on hard evidence or the best sources available.
But many areas are hazy, confusing or a blank. This is in particularly evident around Era Transitions and Regional crossover points. In many cases there are no Hard & Fast rules. We invite folk to contribute
, should they spot any inaccuracies or extra information. This gives us the opportunity to investigate and correct where applicable.
Posterboard Mix
Older, smaller retrofitted stations often repurposed existing Posterboards from previous eras. Many were non-standard larger boards dating from even earlier. Totally new stations would generally have been new to the proper spec.
Posterboards without the Name Headers were found scattered on many older station walls but also as leaning 'Loose' Notice boards to display at station entrances. They also become more common during the later Era 3 period in some regions.
Current Model Suppliers don't seem to produce larger Posterboard sizes. A pity as larger boards were a common feature, even on smaller stations, many as free standing boards capable of taking 3 or more posters. These larger boards
were usually much thicker so we include extra 'coloured' card for you to adapt. We have included all the variations mentioned above.
We have split Era 3 between Early 1923-35 & Late 1935-48, with posters broadly Date appropriate. Where posters cannot be accurately dated we have used as much information as possible, including style, artist etc. to establish the likely period.
Specific Notes on Era 3 GWR
This company primarily used White Relief Lettering on Black Headers but always within White Frames. The lettering was either Full Name or Abbreviations (interspaced with Dots), either Widely spaced or Closely Spaced, dependant on the size of the Boards. Later Black & Blue enamelled header Boards were used but these were strictly Abbreviation Only.
Most Model suppliers seem to go for White Lettering on Black header boards but we have also included the Blue & White Enamelled version variation. This company seemed a bit lax in changing the Station Colour Schemes and, as such, there were many Poster Boards remaining in the Pre-Era 3 Brown colours until the 1930s. It is beyond our scope to include these.
Colours never seem to be mixed so we have made complete sets in each of the colours stated. However, it should be noted that there were many instances of mixed Company Poster Boards in shared/crossover Stations. This was where any two of LNER, LMS, GWR & Southern Railway Poster Boards could be found together on a station. |
We are in a constant process of Development & Improvement so, if you have any requests, suggestions or Corrections, please get in touch. We are particularly keen to ensure accuracy.
