For sale is a pot de creme ( hot chocolate cup) lid made of soft paste porcelain in France in the 18th century . I originally thought it might be for a Tournai or Arras piece but their finials are usually in the shape of a fruit so now I think it is more likely for a Mennecy or Chantilly cup . It could be another maker but not that many made soft paste porcelain. Definitely from the late 18th century. It is hand painted with blue flowers in a pattern called brindilles bleu or just brindille . It is a fairly common pattern among French makers of the 18th century. The lid has two floral designs to it, a bit of blue to the finial and a blue trim along the edge. It is in great condition with a bit of roughness and a tiny chip to the ring that sits inside the cup. The lid is 1.25 inches tall without the ridge that sits inside the lid and has a diameter of 2.625 inches. The outer diameter of the ring that would sit inside the cup is 2.25 inches. Unmarked which is normal but makes it hard to ID. It would fit any maker of this period of this pattern quite nicely! Kakaotasse softpaste
