he Pentax Optio 50L is closely based on the existing Optio50 model, and shares the same lens, imager, and most other functionality of that camera. The most notable change is that the optical viewfinder has been removed, in favor of a larger (but slightly lower resolution) LCD display. Body thickness is increased by a few millimeters and the control layout adjusted to accomodate the larger display.

The Pentax 50L has a five megapixel CCD imager, 32 - 96mm equivalent Pentax branded lens, contrast detection autofocus, focusing as close as 20" (2.4" in macro mode), and a built-in four mode flash. The Optio 50L stores images on SD / MMC cards or 12MB of built-in memory, and offers both NTSC / PAL and USB 1.1 output connectivity. Power comes from two standard AA batteries.
