Up for sale is a 4 x 6 inch photograph of Senator John McCain, of Arizona, along with David and Wendy Vitter and John Cooksey, all of Louisiana. It comes with very specific documentation as to when and where it was taken. IN ADDITION TO THE PHOTO ITSELF, this item also includes a letter, on stationary, from John Cooksey to Mr. and Mrs. David Vitter thanking the Vitters for attending the McCain-Cooksey event, as well as the envelope in which the letter and photo were mailed. The envelope was postmarked in Shreveport, Louisiana on November 30, 2000.
This photo was taken on September 13, 2000 at an event in New Orleans, which Senator McCain attended in support of Dr. Cooksey, an ophthalmologist, who was the incumbent Congressman from Louisiana's Fifth District, running for his second term. Cooksey was re-elected and served a total of six years (three terms) in Congress, from 1999 to 2005. He did not seek further re-election thereby keeping a pledge he had made to serve no more than three terms.
John McCain served in the United States Senate from 1987 until his death in 2018. He was a Presidential candidate in 2008.
Also in the photo are David and Wendy Vitter. When this photo was taken, David Vitter was a Congressman from Louisiana's First District. He had been elected to the house in 1999 and would serve until 2005 when he was elected to the first of two full terms as a Senator, serving until 2017. His wife Wendy Vitter did not hold a governmental office at the time of this photo. An attorney, she was nominated to be a judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in 2018. Her nomination was confirmed in May, 2019.
