A scarce Shelley "Utility Ware" 12503 Carlton shape tea trio. C.1936.

The utility china range was designed for ease in handling, stacking and drinking. It was sold at a price to suit every purse. It was made of a thin yet strong base to withstand the hard wear and tear of constant use. 

Pattern No 12503: Bands and lines of orange on a white ground. Orange handle. Entered into pattern book during or after 1936.  

The back stamp is the 1925-1940 green cartouche mark

The shape of this trio is the Carlton shape which was produced between 1925 & 1936.

Dimensions: diameter of cup base 45mm (1.75 inches) / diameter across top of cup 76mm (3 inches) / height of cup 60mm (2.3 inches) /  diameter of saucer 140mm (5.5 inches) / diameter of side plate 176mm (7 inches).

Condition: All 3 pieces are in very good clean condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or rubbing. Paintwork is in good order with no fading. All 3 pieces have a very good "ping" to them when lightly tapped.
