According to the internet, this dinner plate by Mayer China was made for the former Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago, Illinois. It was designed by Sonnabend Studio with a Polynesian inspired brown tapa cloth pattern surrounding its rim. The dinnerware was produced for the hotel's "Polynesian Village" --which replaced the Marine Dining Room during the South Pacific Tiki Bar craze-- in the 1950's. The village was open for seven years and the once grand hotel was eventually demolished in the early 1970s.

The Details: This plate is in very good vintage condition with surface wear on its center from utensil use. There are no cracks, chips or crazing. There is a small manufacture defect (smudge) on its pattern design in one spot. Please zoom into the picture to see details. This is an extremely hard to find item with Worthpoint showing eBay's most recent sale over two years ago with only 18 listings over the span of 13 years. This is a rare find! Thanks so much for reading and looking!
