Crafted by Edge, Malkin & Co (EM & Co) in Burslem, England, in the late 19th century, this platter is made of earthenware ironstone and features a glossy finish that highlights its intricate details.

The platter is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and the maker's stamp is almost as incredible as the platter itself.

The stamp features a sitting dog, possibly a greyhound or whippet, and reads: TRADEMARK E.M. & CO. B KENT ENGLAND with registration number 171797, which dates the piece between 1870 and 1902. The "B" in the stamp stands for Burslem, one of the six English towns that make up part of the city of Stoke on Trent in Staffordshire England. E.M. & Co. stands for Edge, Malkin, & Co.

The platter is large and thick and shockingly heavy at about 5.75lbs.   It is just such a wonderful example of stellar craftsmanship and design.
