Antique/1900-10 White Batiste "GIBSON GIRL" Eyelet + Embroidery + Cutwork(Broiderie d'Anglese) Bodice/''Waist''/Blouse/Top.
ALL ORIGINAL since purchase. Highly decorative piece in superb wearable condition with NO serious issues. Shown layered over a dark colored top so that you can see the design more clearly.
Typical of the early 1900-1910 era, a completely HANDWORKED Bodice in Eyelet (stitches turn within their confines) interspersed with 'ladders' of Cutwork as Pulled and Wrapped Cotton Floss done in Buttonhole Stitch, scattered Padded Satin-Stitch Embroidery(the carry threads remain and show angled stitching) and trimmed with Reticella Lace on the Collar and Cuffs.
The arms of the Long Sleeves are shaped in the S-CURVE (but not drastically; it is surprisingly comfortable). The Lower Sleeves are cut as 'slim' and can be tightened further with FIVE Button and Loop closures, all original, on each arm. Leave open or close as desired.
The body has the classic 'Gibson Girl' Pouter Pigeon Bodice with the gathered and dropped 'pooching' at the waistline and with the back higher/shorter than the front. Thin Batiste 'flange' at the waist shows some wear, as photographed. Original metal 'snaps'
All buttons are 'as originally found' and look to be original. NOTE the 5 buttons and corresponding loop closures on each forearm to the wrist. SHAPED cuffs, draping over the vamp of the hand to just below the wrist-bone (at least on my arm) and shortening on the inside. Easy to get in and out of once the buttons are released. Back-buttoned on doubled-Batiste Plackets with hand-worked Buttonholes paired with 14 White MOP Buttons(3 at 5/16'' dia. with one missing on the collar, 11 on the CB at 3/8'' dia.. One hook and eye closure at the base of the Collar.) Entre-deux at seams.
High Collar is 'straight', not curved nor funnel-shaped, but never a sign of 'stays'.
Photos taken with blouse laid over colored fabric (not included) to see the workmanship.
Would fit most modern Small-Medium/8-10 Woman's size; see measurements below for more information.
In sound 'wearable' condition with one caveat.. the stress on the very thin, sheer, and fine Cotton Batiste is mostly in the collar.  There are some darns/patches already existing there; others could be done by you, or a backing material could be inserted with little trouble to stabilize the whole. See photos for details.
Part of my personal collection. I purchased this in the early 1960's and wore it a few times, but it has been stored since the 1980's.
Recently hand-washed and air-dried; ready to see the lights of night or day again.
NO returns. Offered ''as is''.
