You are bidding on a very early 1800's Mounted Officer's Sword like the one shown in of the back part of Peterson's American Sword Book. The sword has a 33" blade and is 37" overall. The blade is 1 1/4" wide at the ricasso. There are no maker marks that I can see. The blade appears to have 2 fullers. The hilt is brass. The grip is bone or ivory. There is gold etching visible about 1/3 way down the blade on both sides. The etching is a combination of military motifs and scrolling. The blade has a gray patina with some black staining. The point is sharp. There is some roughness along the edge of the blade and a very small nick about 1/3 the way down. The sword still retains its original leather washer. A great piece of history from our nations early struggles to build our country.
