For sale is a really nice framed rectangular enamel on copper plaque made in France - most likely the Limoges area - in the 19th century. A really nice little piece that is hand painted with a scene of a gentleman next to a lady (possibly a shepherdess) in a nice landscape surrounding. Two sheep to the bottom right, a bridge over a river in the background as well as some buildings. The piece has a beaded metal trim around it (not attached!) and is framed with an velvet type cloth mat and a black painted wooden frame. Neither the cloth not the frame are very nice but they serve a purpose. Some wear and staining to both. The plaque displays nicely but has some odd white spots to it where something got onto the plaque and removed the paint a bit or in some case just lightened it a bit. The worst it one spot by the sheep's butt. one near the bushes on the bottom left, one near the window of the house and two in the sky though they blend in perfectly with the clouds. Some more minor spots. Having said all this when the piece is displayed they are not obvious and the piece looks amazing! The plaque itself is 4 inches wide and 2.875 inches tall so a nice size. The entire framed piece is 8 inches wide and 6.625 inches tall plus about 0.5 inches thick. I would reframe it but that's just me. French Emaillebild Emailbild
