The front of the lid is designed to accommodate a spoon, allowing it to remain in the pot even when the lid is closed.

William Hutton & Sons was established in Birmingham by William Hutton in 1800, later moving to Sheffield in 1832. The company was known for its manufacturing of silversmith and plating products. In 1864, the name changed to William Hutton & Son, reflecting the partnership between William Carr Hutton and his son Herbert Hutton. By 1870, the firm became William Hutton & Sons with the inclusion of Herbert's brothers. The company expanded to a London showroom in 1863 and acquired several other firms over the years, including Rupert Favell & Co in 1893 and Creswick & Co in 1902. William Hutton & Sons Ltd continued operations until the company failed in 1930.

This mustard pot is designed for serving mustard or other condiments. The silver-plated exterior provides a durable and attractive finish, while the blue glass liner ensures easy cleaning and prevents the contents from reacting with the metal. The craftsmanship and historical significance of this piece make it a valuable collectable.
