Condition

Implements are in fine condition with marks indicative of both age and usage, mainly some blistering to the iron surface of the shoehorn. The case interior is fine with no major issues. The case exterior shows signs of usage and storage with rubbing to the surface, especially around the edges and top of the lid.

This antique set includes a silver-handled button hook and shoehorn, both hallmarked for Birmingham 1910. The set comes in a fitted case, which features a blue silk lining on the underside of the lid and a blue velvet-lined tray shaped to hold the implements. The case exterior has two rear hinges and a front decorated brass closing clasp, with a hand-applied gilt line around the perimeter of the lid rim for decoration.

The button hook and shoehorn were commonly used in the early 20th century for fastening buttons on boots and other clothing and for aiding in putting on shoes. The handles of the implements are adorned with raised foliate patterns, with a small blank cartouche in the centre for engraving. The shoehorn is marked "Steel, British Made."

The silver handles and detailed decoration make this set a collectable item for those interested in historical grooming tools and antique silverware. The set reflects the craftsmanship of the early 1900s, with practical tools housed in an elegant case designed for both function and aesthetic appeal.
