Rose Campion (Lychnis coronaria)  50 seeds

Rose campion (Lychnis coronaria) is an old-fashioned beauty that adds vibrant color to the flower garden in shades of magenta, bright pink and white. The wooly, silver-green leaves were at one time used as lamp wicks. Flowers are plentiful in the plants' second year.  Rose campion prefers fairly dry, well-drained conditions in full sun or partial shade but will tolerate clay and moist soil. Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering or shear after the initial flowering to promote a second round of blooms later in the season. Plant 15-20" apart. Zones 3-8. This plant is shipped bare root.  Mature plants are pictured.

To plant:

Plant seeds in late winter or in autumn.   Sow seeds thinly on the surface of pots or trays of moist seed starting mix.  These seeds need light to germinate so either cover with glass or a thin layer of perlite.  Rose campion seeds require cold stratification so are best sown in an unheated greenhouse or a sheltered spot outside.  Ideal for winter sowing in milk jugs.  Once seedlings are large enough to handle they can be transplanted into individual pots or trays.  Plant out when well grown.
