Vintage paperback copy of The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Arthur Conan Doyle (Bantam, 1949). The third Sherlock Holmes novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles finds Holmes and Watson chasing the legend of a demonic dog haunting the esteemed Baskerville family of England's West Country. An astonishingly popular book, both in its own time and ever since, The Hound of the Baskervilles was voted one of the 200 "best-loved" novels in the UK in 2003. This edition, published in 1949, was likely an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the Sherlock Holmes films of the 1940s, starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Watson. The cover art, which features a beautiful woman in bondage, was likely an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of sleaze paperbacks of the time.

This book is in very good condition overall, with a very tight spine but one large tear on the rear cover.
