Vintage paperback copy of White Fang, by Jack London (Scholastic, 1954). Published as part of Scholastic's "Teen Age Book Club," in which students could order books shipped directly to their classrooms (a forerunner of the still popular Scholastic Book Club in schools today). White Fang tells the story of a wild wolfdog in the Yukon Territory who befriends a group of indigenous people and is eventually tamed by a rich and kind mining expert, who takes White Fang to live with him in California. The story of White Fang's domestication was intended as a companion to London's earlier novel, The Call of the Wild, which details a domesticated dog's attempt to survive in the wild.
