France, Paul-Marcel Dammann (1885-1939), "Serenity", a brass plaque, Clotho and Lachesis, manufactured c. 1920-5 in Paris. 78 x 69 mm. Edge stamped CUIVRE and a triangle, both incuse.

Clotho and Lachesis are two of the three fates, entrusted with the thread of life. The third fate, Atropos, who represents death, is absent from the plaque, presumably an intentional artistic choice. Perhaps if you are serene, you won't be worrying about her...

EF, brushed with resulting surface marks, the blank reverse a little discoloured. Rare and a lovely work of fine art deco style.
