One of those pieces that I wish I knew the WHOLE story on! It came from someone with a long storied history of collecting from everywhere and every when. It looks to be First Nations, and I believe the decoration on it to be some kind of natural dye. The hide is quite slack, but I'm thinking someone knowledgeable in the ways of hide drums could likely re-stretch it and put it back to its former glory.
