The funk band Cameo began their career FIFTY years ago, in 1974. And they are still around to this very day! Two original members left the group to join Outkast at the start of the new millennia. Founder and leader Larry Blackmon is still heading up the band. They had one major hit in 1986, called "Word Up!". That song is the one that everyone knows, and it quickly propelled them to star status. They followed it up with "Candy", and "Back and Forth". They're both good songs, but failed to explode like "Word Up!" did.

Today we look back at the funky 80s, and a double shot of "Word Up!" rare collectible vinyl! First up is the shaped picture disc for that immortal single (even nü metal band Korn remade "Word Up!", as well as a few other artists). This rare collectible is really cool, and is Larry Blackmon, Tomi Jenkins, and  Nathaniel Leftenant on the A side, and song titles and credits on the B side. And it comes with a cardboard stand! There are instructions on how to secure the record in this stand. The stand has never been used, so it's in nearly perfect condition. The vinyl itself looks pretty good, with a few light surface marks on the grooves. I can't vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. But a really nice souvenir for funk fans of Cameo!

But so you don't have to play your picture disc, I'll also add the 12" of "Word Up!", with the extended 12" version, the 7" version, AND the instrumental version! They even add an extra track titled "Urban Warrior". The record itself looks great, and is shiny and clean. The jacket has some ring-wear on the front and back, as well as some basic shelf-wear on it, too. But the vinyl sounds awesome, and you'll be wanting to dance when you hear the opening to this great song. Put some much needed 80s jam back into your life!
