The first edition was published in 1860 in London by Tuebner's Free Russian Press and was banned in Russia. Kozhanchikov's 1863 edition, sourced from a manuscript by noted antiquarian Tikhon Fedorovich Bolshakov, is rarer and remains unaltered in its original language and style.
