Very old French Postal/Apothecary Scale first found in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The scale itself is from the 1860’s. There was a note inside the drawer that read: “Scale was purchased at a house sale in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia in the mid 1960’s. Said to have come from Martinique in the French West Indies. Age is uncertain maybe 1860’s.”

Upon closer inspection, we find that the drawer is dovetailed in the French manner and the small knob is typical of the French style. The scale appears to be quite old.

Measures 9.5 inches wide, 5 inches deep, and 10.5 inches tall.

The wood may be mahogany or cherry wood. Despite being quite old, it is in very good condition.
