Robert Walpole, as Earl of Orford, 1742, bronze medal, his draped bust right/Britannia presents Walpole with coronet and tramples Envy. City view of London from Southwark behind, including London Bridge, the Monument and the Tower of London  Bronze, 39 mm.

This medal commemorates the ennobling of Walpole, the UK's first Prime Minister, who had served from 1721, in 1742, on his resignation from office. Thus despite the triumphant reverse scene, the medal has an ironic element; Walpole gains dignity at the expense of most of his power.

EF, glossy, a few minor marks.
