280 pages. The book is about Charles Blair Macdonald, one of the best golf course architects that ever lived. Macdonald did not design many courses, but the courses he designed are some of the best. In particular, his National Golf Links of America in Southampton, NY is one of the true gems of the world. This book recounts Macdonald's experience as a designer, emphasizes the building of the National Golf Links and also has extensive coverage of two of MacDonald's under-study's, Seth Raynor and Charles Banks. Includes extensive black and white and color photographs and is a highly recommended golf book. Macdonald also designed the Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda, Piping Rock and St. Louis Country Club. A difficult book to find because its become a cult classic and connoisseurs horde their copy.
