I made this wonderful find when given the opportunity to look through a house that had been dormant for years. Patent date stamped on the underneath of February 23, 1897. The cup was made no later than 1899. It has the beautiful case, and ascends and descends as it should. It is approximately 3" tall by 2.5" wide at the mouth. It weighs 3.2 ounces. It is not marked silverplate.  I believe it to be but it is not marked as such. The case removes easily to allow the cup to ascend, and reattaches after the cup descends.
