RARE 1860 Lincoln Residence Series Medal MS64 RB NGC Copper King-820 Lovett

RARE 1860 Lincoln Residence Series Medal MS64 RB NGC Copper King-820 Lovett

RARE 1860-1861 Lincoln Residence Series Medal MS64 RB NGC Copper Ex. Dewitt Lovett Ex. J. Doyle Dewitt Collection.

35mm, copper. Uncirculated, beautiful! Rare piece. King-820, Cunningham-1590C.

Following Abraham Lincoln's election in 1860, George H. Lovett embarked on creating a collection of small medals featuring the initial sixteen U.S. presidents and their residences. Unlike his Battle Series, which was sold as a complete collection, these medalets were NOT sold individually to consumers, only by subscription. The availability of these medals on the market today suggests that the ones produced later in the series were less common, possibly due to lower sales and subscribers declining to continue receiving. Lincoln was the last in the series, and rarely comes up for sale.

Most sources suggest they were minted in copper and sold for fifty cents each, and in white metal for twenty-five cents each.

Obverse: Right facing clothed Lincoln bust; "Abraham Lincoln, Sixteenth President of the U.S." around, and inside wreath.

Reverse: "Residence of Abraham Lincoln" above depiction of Lincoln's home in Springfield, IL.
